Suspicious Viber messages and fake support: check before you act
Check the request, not the logo. A copied name, badge or urgent deadline doesn't prove who's messaging you. Viber will never ask for your activation code or 2-step PIN in a chat. Identify exactly what's being asked, verify the channel yourself, then report and block — without handing over any secret.

What is the message asking for?
The request matters more than the avatar. Pick what it wants.
Never send a code or PIN
Viber never asks for these in a chat. Don't send it, don't “confirm” it to cancel a first one — report and block.
Don't follow the link
Type the service's known help address yourself rather than tapping an unsolicited link, which can lead to a fake login page.
A recovery fee is a red flag
Owner recovery through Viber is free. A stranger asking for money, then a second “fee”, is the classic recovery scam.

Identify the exact request
Name precisely what information, payment or device access the sender wants. That alone often reveals the scam.
Open Viber help independently
Use the official app, or type Viber's known help address yourself. Don't follow the link in the message; official Viber messages come only from the blue-verified account.
Report and block
Messages from people not in your contacts show a report-spam option, and Message Requests let you block and report. The sender isn't notified.

Real Viber contact vs an impersonator
The things that look convincing — a logo, a name, urgency — are the easiest to fake. The things that actually verify an account are harder to copy.
Signs it isn't really Viber
| Question | Looks official | What actually proves it |
|---|---|---|
| A copied logo or name | Trivial to fake | Only the blue-verified account is official |
| Urgency or a deadline | Pressure, not proof | Real security notices aren't time-bombed |
| Asks for your code or PIN | Never legitimate | Viber never asks for these in a chat |
| Asks for payment to unlock | A classic scam | Owner recovery is free, through Viber |
Judge the request and the channel, not the appearance.
What a single message can't prove
One screenshot doesn't make a sender genuine. A forwarded warning or a copied badge proves nothing. Verify the account symptom and the channel separately.
Why they want the code. A 6-digit code registers your number on a phone, and 5 wrong PIN entries block activation for 5 days — attackers exploit both. That's why Viber never asks for them.
Fake support can't manufacture legitimacy
A deadline, a copied logo and a confident tone are persuasion, not verification. No urgency changes the rule: Viber never needs your code or PIN, and no legitimate helper does either.
- They promise: “Forward the code to confirm it's really you.”Confirming a code to a stranger is exactly how an account is taken. Viber verifies you on your own device, not by chat.
- They promise: “We're Viber support — pay to reinstate your account.”Viber support doesn't message you to collect fees. Owner recovery is free through the official Help Center.
We never contact account owners as Viber support, and we never ask for a code, PIN or payment.
Frequently asked questions
A message says my account will be deleted unless I send a PIN. Is it real?
No. Viber never asks for your PIN or code in a chat, and doesn't threaten deletion to extract them. Don't reply with the secret — report and block the sender.
Someone pretending to be support wants a second code to 'cancel' the first. What do I do?
Stop sending anything. Continuing the exchange isn't verification — it's how the takeover completes. Report the contact and secure your account and recovery email.
I already shared a code. What now?
Act fast: re-activate your number on your own phone, turn on 2-step verification, and review linked devices. If your recovery email was exposed too, secure that mailbox. You can't un-send a code, so re-secure everything it protects.
How do I report a spam or scam message?
Open the conversation's info, choose report, then block. Messages from non-contacts show a report-spam option directly, and the sender isn't notified that you reported them.
A preview of my message showed on a shared screen. Was I hacked?
Not necessarily. A lock-screen preview is physical exposure, not a remote breach. Adjust notification and privacy settings and consider who can reach that device.
Can VbSpy tell me if a support account is genuine?
We can't verify individual accounts, but the rule is simple: official Viber messages come from the blue-verified account and never ask for your code or PIN. Anything else asking for secrets is suspect.
