Viber activation code or 2-step PIN isn't working
Name the prompt first. An activation code is a six-digit number Viber sends now to verify your phone number. A 2-step PIN is a secret you set earlier that Viber asks for on a new phone. They look similar but are fixed by different routes — pick yours below. We never ask you to type a code or PIN here.

Which prompt are you seeing?
The fix depends on the exact screen. Pick what Viber is showing you — every route below is also written out in full, so you can read all of them.
Activation code
Viber is verifying your number. Go to the activation steps — check reception, then use SMS or the call option.
Activation steps2-step PIN
The code verified your number; the PIN is a separate layer. If you've forgotten it, reset it with your recovery email.
PIN recoveryOld-device activation
If your old phone still opens Viber, use the code it shows. If you no longer have it, fall back to SMS or the call option on this phone.
Fix the activation code
Use the delivery method Viber actually offers on your screen — not instructions sent to you by a stranger.
Check the number and reception
Confirm the country code and the exact number you're registering. Make sure this phone receives ordinary SMS and calls, and that a call-blocking or spam-filter app isn't in the way.
Use SMS, or the call option if SMS won't arrive
Viber first sends the six-digit code by SMS. If it doesn't arrive, tap Activate via call: Viber places an automated (Flash) call, and the last four digits of the calling number are your code.
- Enter your number
- Get code by SMS
- Activate via call
Try the old-device option only if it's shown
During setup Viber may offer to send the code to a device where you're already signed in. Use the route on your own screen. No legitimate helper needs you to read the code out to them.
If a PIN screen appears next, switch tracks
A correct code can be followed by a 2-step PIN request — that's the separate protection layer, not a second code. Don't keep requesting SMS; go to PIN recovery instead.
Code ≠ PIN
Where the code comes from — and where it never goes
The code is generated by Viber and delivered by your mobile carrier to the number you're registering. No website or person can read it off your phone. That's why sharing it hands over your account.
If anyone asks you to forward a code “to verify”, stop: the code is the key to your number.
Activation code vs 2-step PIN
If you're not sure which one Viber is asking for, compare them:
| Activation code | 2-step PIN | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A six-digit code sent now | A secret you set earlier |
| When you see it | Right after you enter your number | On a new phone, after the code |
| Where it comes from | SMS or an automated call | Your memory / recovery email |
| If it fails | 3 tries, then wait 24 h | 5 wrong = 5-day block; reset by email |
| Official fix | Activation & registration help | Forgot PIN → recovery email |
Numbers above are Viber's own limits (see sources). The two prompts never share a fix.
Limits and what the error messages mean
Knowing the exact limits stops you from locking yourself out by retrying:
Three tries, then wait 24 hours. You get three attempts to enter the six-digit code. After that Viber makes you wait 24 hours before requesting a new one. Plan around that window instead of requesting code after code.
“Activation failed” usually means a temporary spam restriction. If Viber says activation failed, your number may be briefly limited after too many rapid attempts. Stop retrying; if it persists, contact Viber Support through the official Help Center.
Five wrong PINs block activation for 5 days. On a new phone, entering the 2-step PIN wrong five times blocks activation for 5 days. If you're unsure of the PIN, use PIN recovery rather than guessing.
Never share a code or PIN — even with “support”
Viber will never ask for your activation code or 2-step PIN in a chat. A message that needs your code to “verify”, “unlock” or “cancel” something is an account-takeover attempt, whatever name, badge or logo it shows. Official Viber messages come only from the blue-verified account.
- They promise: “Forward the code you just got and we'll restore your account.”Your code registers your number on a phone. Anyone who has it can take over your Viber. Viber support never needs it.
- They promise: “Pay a fee and we'll bypass the PIN for you.”There is no paid PIN bypass. The only reset is Forgot PIN to your own recovery email. A seller asking for money or secrets is a scam.
We never ask for your code or PIN, and we can't send you one — codes come only from Viber and your carrier.
Frequently asked questions
Viber keeps saying my code is wrong. What now?
Re-check the exact six digits and make sure you're using the newest code — an older SMS may still be on screen. You only get three tries before a 24-hour wait, so don't rush repeated attempts. If a PIN screen appears after the code, that's the separate 2-step layer, not another code.
The SMS never arrives. Can I still activate?
Yes. Tap Activate via call: Viber places an automated call and the last four digits of the calling number are your code. Check that this phone has normal call reception and that no call-blocking app is intercepting it.
What's the difference between the code and the PIN?
The activation code is sent now to prove you control the number. The 2-step PIN is a secret you chose earlier for extra protection. Different screens, different fixes — a code can't answer a PIN prompt and a PIN can't answer a code prompt.
I set a PIN but forgot it. Am I locked out?
Not necessarily. Tap Forgot PIN at the PIN screen and Viber emails a reset link to your recovery address. Without that email, five wrong PINs block activation for five days — so recover the mailbox first. See the PIN guide.
Can VbSpy or anyone send me a working code?
No. Codes are generated by Viber and delivered by your carrier to your number only. Any site or person offering to “send” or “read” your code is attempting an account takeover — never share it.
Viber says “activation failed”. Is my number banned?
Usually it's a temporary restriction after too many rapid attempts, not a permanent ban. Stop retrying, wait, and if it keeps failing contact Viber Support through the official Help Center.
